Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Splicing (CFOS/S)

This eight-hour advanced specialist fiber optic training includes an in-depth presentation explaining the importance of high-performance splicing and details the points necessary for achieving these splices. An overview of OTDR functions and trace understanding is also provided. You will receive training in both fusion and mechanical splicing of either single-mode or multimode fiber optic cables in hands-on activities. Inside or outside plant fiber optic cable types may be used along with fiber optic enclosures and splice trays. You will be responsible for making and testing mechanical and fusion splices. In addition, you will be required to efficiently install spliced fibers into splice trays and enclosures. You will also be required to achieve a splice loss of less than 0.15 dB for all splices and demonstrate proficiency in interpreting splice loss using OTDR splice traces.
