Armchair Travel: The Hidden Heart of Asia: The Five Stans
ID :
18873
« back to classes page
Join us on adventures near and far as our presentations give you unique perspectives of travelers' experiences.
Visit five countries that make up the hidden heart of Asia. In ancient times the Silk Road crisscrossed them. Russian czars and later the Soviet Union forced them from their nomadic life to accept borders. In the 1990s they became independent countries. Kazakhstan is the ninth-largest country in the world. Kyrgyzstan was the site of the U.S. base for operations into Afghanistan. Uzbekistan bills itself as the land of 1001 nights. Turkmenistan and Tajikistan complete the trip to a part of the world where few Americans travel.
